To mark the start of Tobias Kratzer's new directorship, the Hamburg State Opera invites you to an opening discussion before the first premiere of Paradise and the Peri. This discussion is intended to open up spaces for thought and shed light on the question of how art can work and shape in times of crisis. In short, it is about the potential of music theater: What role does it play in resilience and coping with crises? How can art and culture help to proactively and productively shape challenges and creatively accompany social change? The panel will discuss not only the importance of culture as a seismograph and source of inspiration, but also the responsibility with which it can or could, must or should react to a world in upheaval. Or shouldn't it?
