Young Woo Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, studied singing at Chugye University for the Arts in his hometown, and was a scholarship holder at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. Following his training, he was a member of the International Opera Studio at Cologne Opera and became a member of the ensemble in 2018. Guest engagements have taken him to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the Hanover State Opera, Opera Australia Sydney, the Frankfurt Opera, the Bielefeld Theater, and the Garsington Opera Festival, among others. His repertoire includes Erik (The Flying Dutchman), Radamès (Aida), Ismaele (Nabucco), Hoffegut (Die Vögel), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), and the title role in Faust. He made his debut at the Hamburg State Opera in 2023, performing the role of Cavaradossi (Tosca). He will return to Hamburg in the same role in 2025/26. (As of 06/2025)
