Michaela Barth

Michaela Barth was born in Munich and grew up in Algeria, Saudi Arabia and the Bergisches Land. After graduating from high school, she trained as a dressmaker and moved to Berlin to study at the University of the Arts, where she has lived ever since. In Berlin, she supervised productions of the homeless theatre “Ratten 07” as well as the prison theatre “Aufbruch” in the Tegel correctional facility for many years. Since 2000 she has worked regularly with Michael Thalheimer on productions such as Verdi's “Macbeth“ at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and most recently on his production of Hofmannsthal's “Elektra“ at the Dramaten Theatre in Stockholm. In 2007, she created the costume design for Katharina Wagner's production of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“ at the Bayreuth Festival. She has also designed costumes for directors David Hermann, Andrea Moses, Christof Loy, Hans Neuenfels, Armin Petras, Enrico Lübbe, Martin Nimz, Holk Freytag, Karoline Gruber, Johannes Schütz and Andres Veiel. For “Il mondo della luna“ she collaborates with Tomo Sugao for the first time. She will be working with Michael Thalheimer for “Der fliegende Holländer“ at the Hamburg State Opera and for “Parsifal“ at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
