Azim Karimov

Since the 2022/23 season, Azim Karimov has been a conductor at the Bavarian State Opera. He has led productions such as Die Passagierin, Eugene Onegin, Tosca and Peter and the Wolf, at the Bavarian State Opera and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Upcoming engagements include Ruslan and Ljudmila at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Christmas Eve and The Nutcracker at the Bavarian State Opera and symphony concerts with the Bavarian State Orchestra and with the Orchestra do Algarve. From 2017 to 2020, Karimov was Chief Conductor of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Entre Nous and later worked with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared at leading Moscow festivals and conducted renowned ensembles such as the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov.” Born in Pärnu, Estonia, he studied oboe at the Schnittke Moscow State College of Music and graduated in symphony and opera conducting from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Prof. Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
